MIC Senior Trip 2008
July 25 - August 3, 2008
Notes and Photos from our Scouts

Start of trip -  A good day of driving through the heart of New York State. Our guys ended the day with a beautiful (no charge for the rainbow) visit at Niagara Falls and then went on to their campsite in Canada. Nice!

Arrival at Michigan Camporee -  Soon after our guys arrived at the Northwoods Scout Reservation, our new friends from Kazakhstan found our Troop and enjoyed a great reunion. They really enjoyed their trip to New York and like hanging out with our Scouts. Troop 73 is sharing a campsite with Scouts from Ireland and Taiwan with frequent visits from Kazakhstan. Now that's International! As you can see from the photos below, the opening night ceremony was full of Scouts in uniform from around the world, very impressive!

Day 1 Activities including water sports -  And look! They've got one of those cool Blob thingies. One guy jumps down and another guy gets tossed into the water... looks like so much fun and it's a perfect activity for this weather. The two Scouts pictured in the air are Andrew and Tom. The campfire last night was a combination of two campsites and had a nice international flair.

Day 2 Activities including shooting sports and initiative games -  Let's see... it looks like they got to shoot air rifles, arrows and paintball guns! They sure look happy, don't they? Even the "initiative (problem-solving) games" look fun. How cool is it to be a scout? Jordan got to do an Indian dance with a girl from Austria and Brodie is chatting up the Argentineans. Michael said they were able to do a fair amount of trading this evening. I don't know what the Scouts got but Michael traded for an Argentina neckerchief for little Jon. My job is to help him look up a map of Argentina so he can see how far they traveled to get to Michigan so they could give Daddy a neckerchief!

Day 3 Activities including Scoutcraft -  Making dreamcatchers and such. Today marks the halfway point and they're still having loads of fun!

Day 4 Activities including more water sports -  Swimming and handicrafts... one of their activities involved smelting toy soldiers and scout shapes. That'll be a fun topic for the "What I did over my summer vacation" essay!

Day 5 Activities including more shooting sports and some tubing -  A good breakfast and then off to shooting sports and finally some refreshing tubing. Isn't summer great! Please remember to thank Dr. Jon Rie for all these fabulous pictures. I think we're getting a really good idea of the fun our guys are having up there in Michigan, the rat finks!
